TRYING TO KEEP WARM !!!!!

Bitter Cold :
We are trying to keep warm here in Ohio. For the last 2 days I have sat either wrapped up in my electric throw or went to bed early just to keep warm. Last night I slept in a sweatshirt with the electric blanket. I don't think it could have been any colder if we had been in the fiver! I know some of you have been cold and freezing too! Today it is 7, count em seven degrees above zero, but the wind is bringing the chill factor down to -15! It does seem warmer in the apartment today, so the wind must be blowing from a different direction. I have had to keep the birds in their cages, and 3 sides of the cages covered the last 2 days, because of a draft. They have let us know that they're not happy about it too! So today I let them out of the cages for awhile. We'll see how the day goes, and if I have to make them get back in their cages or not. I'm sure if I do I'll here some squawking about that!

Today:
So far all I have done is feed Dutchess and water my plants. I'm not sure what else I'll get into except for washing my dishes. I need to do that because all my silverware is dirty. I haven't done the dishes in 2 days either, and boy can I tell. I still don't have all that many dishes with just the 2 of us, but they can sure add up quickly, and it makes the apartment look cluttered with them sitting in a basket on the table. Not much has been done on the apartment the last 2 days, with it being so cold, it has taken all our energy just to stay warm, but both of us are starting to get antsy just sitting here doing nothing. Hopefully we'll get something done today!

Tomorrow is our middle son, Corey's Birthday! I can't remember it being this cold here since the day he was born. We got home from the hospital the day before the blizzard of 78 hit Ohio. We got all that snow and then the temps dipped down to below zero for almost a week! We lived in base housing at Wright Patterson AFB here in Dayton then. Thank goodness we only got the cold temps and not all the snow too! Anyway, Corey wants sausage gravy and biscuits for his Birthday, so we are going over to their house and I am fixing brunch for them. So that is the plan for tomorrow. I guess after I get the dishes done we will venture out and get the stuff I need to fix that, and see how everyone else is getting along. We haven't been out of the house since Wednesday, so even with the wind chill it will be good to get out for a little bit! What am I saying it'll be darn COLD! YIKES! Well that is about all I can think of for today, so I guess I'll close for today and get busy. So I'll see ya soon...

GOING TO LOWE'S

Weather and Lowe's
I have to explain about the weather before I talk about going to Lowe's. The temp was 19 degrees and we were in the middle of snow flurries. We have about 3 inches of the white stuff on the ground now. So at 2:30 we decided to go to Lowe's, why? Well, tomorrow is supposed to be a high of 7 degrees, and we didn't want to go out when it was that cold, so we took a chance and went today because we needed materials. Only we, would go out for building materials in the middle of a bunch of cold, windy snow flurries! LOL! So off we went, with the flurries heavy at times, but the roads were not too bad. The parking lot at Lowe's was treacherous though! It was really slick and hard to walk on. We got in and out within an hour, and were on our way back home. Funny how it doesn't take long to spend a hundred dollars! We passed a snow plow, plowing the other lane and putting down either salt or sand. I didn't turn around to look, so I don't know which it was. Anyway we got home and got the stuff unloaded.

Bathroom Sink:
We have a bathroom sink now! Well, we had one before but it wasn't hooked up. Now we even have hot and cold running water! Great job Mike! It is really pitiful when ya get excited about a sink and water! Haha! Hopefully we can get the bead board up, and then Mike can start running water lines for the kitchen sink. Then I can even do my dishes in the apartment! Remind me later that I was excited about being able to do my dishes in the apartment, OK? I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon after the kitchen sink is hooked up! So that is the plan for the next few days. Mike also has some electric lines to run, so he'll be doing that too. It's a good thing he knows how to do all this stuff or we'd be up a creek, without a paddle! I will be painting the bead board, while he does that, then after I get that done and we get the counter top, the sink can be hooked up. I can tile the back splash after that is done.

Scare:
My Mom gave us a scare the other evening, and had to go to the hospital emergency room. My brother called me and said they were checking to make sure that she hadn't had a stroke or a heart attack. She spent the night in the hospital, and came home the next day. They found out that she had a really bad sinus infection, and her potassium was really low. That was causing the symptoms of her face drawing to one side (sinus) and her arms tingling (low potassium), and her inflammation level was up to 75. She came home with about 5 new medicines, but thank goodness she is alright! She is really tired from her potassium being so low, and I am keeping in constant touch by phone. We may go down to Circleville, this weekend, just so I can check for myself that she is doing ok and doesn't need my help. Now I am really worried about going anywhere, so we'll see what happens in the future. Well I hope things are going ok in your neck of the woods wherever you may be, and anyone traveling please travel safe, and I'll see ya , "Some Where Over the Rainbow", so until then...

COLD AND GETTING COLDER

Cold:
Brrr! We got a couple of inches of snow last night, but the roads aren't bad. The wind is what is bad! It just blows right through you! This cold is really bad for my knees. I have a feeling my other knee (the good one) is going to need surgery before long! I hate to even think about that though, so I'll be like Scarlett O'Hara, in Gone With the Wind and I won't! LOL!! The knees sure do hurt though, when it's cold like this and it makes it hard to walk. I am still not using my crutches though, and I won't unless it gets really bad! I'm just going to keep trying to walk a little more each day. We'll see what happens! Wish me luck!

Kara:
Kara didn't get to spend Saturday night with us because the roads were really icy and Jamie didn't want to chance it, and I'm glad he didn't take the chance. She was a little disappointed though.

Today:
I got the dishes done, and dinner in the crock pot and not I am ready to clean off the top of the buffet, and then we can move it. Yippee! It's about time! I am looking forward to getting some things moved where I want them. My lighthouses are on the bathroom wall (wallpaper), and Mike is putting the plumbing in for the sink as I type this! Pretty soon we'll have a sink and a shower in our apartment! I hate to rush him, but how I long for a stove, and a kitchen sink! I'm still having to carry my dishes to the main kitchen to wash them, and dare I say it, fixing meals in the crockpot! The sink won't be a problem because he can run those lines after he gets the bathroom sink done. It's almost a straight line to the kitchen sink. The gas lines are going to be the problem. In order to run them, Mike has to go under the house into the crawl space again. Mike really hates going into the crawl space! I can't really say that I blame him, cos I know I wouldn't do it! LOL!! I really dislike cold, tight places, and I couldn't crawl around on my knees like he does when he is down there. Well, I guess I better get busy, cos it's not fair for Mike to do all the work! So I'll try to see ya's in the same cyberspace tomorrow...
