This the story of our journey, Into Something Good, going Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and trying to Hold Onto Our Dreams. How we got on the way to becoming HALF time RVers! Our Ford 350 super duty diesel truck is our horses, we call it the Beast . Our 2008 34'7" 3 slide Cedar Creek Silverback fifth wheel is our Prairie Schooner Wagon,we call it the Bear. Just like the first RVers, the Pioneers of Yesteryear traveling around the country searching for a rich full filling life! Come along with us for the ride and read about our triumphs and mishaps along the way! About to be Part time RVers in a Cedar Creek Silverback 2008, 34'7", 3 slide 5th wheel, which is our Prairie Schooner Wagon, and a 2006 Ford 350 super duty 1 ton diesel truck is our horses, or oxen, only we have to feed it diesel instead of grass, and oats, which costs a lot more! Retired Air Force empty nesters off to see the good ole USA! Favorite Quote: "Life is a Blank Canvas, Made For Me to Add the Colors" Goal: I am trying to add as many colors as I can to my life!

IKE ROARED INTO OHIO

Sunday:
Ike roared into the state of Ohio on Sunday the 14th of September. They (the weather people) are saying that it was still a class one hurricane. We just didn't have the rain and the ocean to deal with. The winds were clocked between 60 to 70 mph an hour here. The winds blew from early morning to about 8:00p.m. at night. We lost our electric at about 3 p.m. We are still one of the hundreds of thousands without electricity here in Ohio. The Ohio Governor has declared Ohio a disaster area. I am so glad that our freezer in the house was not even close to being full, otherwise I would have to throw everything away. Luckily, with the fiver in the driveway I can still cook with the propane. I told Mike that I'm not enjoying being Amish! While it's a novelty to be without electric for a few hours or to go visit Amish country, I have no desire to live without my comforts. We may be without electricity until Friday or next Monday! Our battery in the fiver ran down, so we had to take it over to our son Corey's house to charge it so we may have lights later this evening at least to read by. We also have an oil lamp to use until we go to bed. The houses across the street have electric. so the winds were not as strong in some areas as others. We were sure scared for the fiver, and we brought the slides in to protect the slide toppers from the wind. One nice thing that we discovered though with our house and the house next door sitting our closer to the street than ours it kind of made a protected corner that the fiver was sitting in. So we didn't have any damage to the fiver.

We feel extremely lucky and very humbled by this experience. There are trees down everywhere, and some that were completely uprooted in the area around us. The kids had no school yesterday, but they were able to go today. Most of the stores close to us are still closed, and you can't find a bag of ice within 25 miles of us. The damage has been unbelievable. I'm sure that the people in La and Tx have had it a lot worse, and my heart goes out to them. I know that we have only had to deal with about 1/10 th of what they have been dealing with. All in all just not having electricity has been rough, I cannot imagine loosing my home and all my belongings too! This experience has really made me appreciate having all the conveniences we have. My blog may be sporadic until all this is resolved, but I'll blog when I can. So until I can get over to my sons house again, or we get electric back on everyone please take care of yourself. Until next time...
